It’s Tummy Time *Insert Jazz Hands*

I promise you I love saying Tummy Time in sets of three lol. Tummy Time is a term I wasn’t familiar with until I had my little one. Tummy Time is the period in which infants and babies spend intervals on their bellies preparing them to strengthen muscles needed to sit, crawl, and even stand.
My son was not a fan of spending time on his stomach, but I found some tricks to lengthen his tummy time from 1 minute of crying to 10 minutes of pouting.
Get a bright colored and contrasting activity mat! Mats that include handles, overpasses, rattles, lights, and items to grab on are the best for Tre. I found him reaching for and using his upper body strength to get a hold of these distractions. We implemented the The Baby Einstein Nautical Friends Play Gym Mat.
As Tre got older and started to army crawl, I purchased an Imaginarium Alphabet & Numbers Foam Puzzle Mat- 36 Piece. The mat covers a large area of the floor creating a protective crawl space that is also waterproof. I just place him in the center with toys at the corner and let him have a go.

TACKLING ILLNESS: 101

The horror that is the infant, baby, and toddler congestion!

I placed my little guy in Day Care for socialization a few days out of the week and with that came the wonderful world of contamination. That’s right by the third day of Day Care; my son sounded like an Ebola victim. I rushed him to the doctors only to be told that there was pretty much nothing I could do. I took to the internet and asked around to attempt to figure out what I could do to ease my son’s symptoms and pain.

While Tre’s time in the NICU I was introduced to a Hospital Grade Aspirator (which I took home with me). The hospital paired the aspirator with saline drops to loosen and remove extra mucus. I tried Little Remedies Saline Nasal Drops with Hospital Grade Aspirator, and it did the job. The downside was my son looked at me as if I was attempting to murder him as he cried out for his life.

As his congestion was reduced, I use Little Remedies Sterile Saline Nasal Mist to moisten and eliminate some of his cloggings. I tilted his head to the side as instructed and snot came out of the opposite nostril. This was easy and effective.

A friend recommended NoseFrida’s The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator and I feel like this was the best investment ever. I felt the suction was able to clear so much more. My son still hates any device that may help clear his nose, but he wasn’t as hostile towards this instrument.

The Humidifier was run day and night along with vaporizer filling. We live in the desert so it’s dry and the humidifier helped dampen the air with slight relief. I noticed he seemed to breathe a little easier with the humidifier and vapor.

A Steamy Shower always does the job. When I get sick, I find that a steamy shower always seems to help unclog my nose. As I tried this with my son, it additionally works for babies.

The good ole’ fashioned Vics Vapor Rub, seemed a little harsh for my infant. I found Zarbee’s Soothing Chest Rub was a great natural alternative. I was able to smooth over his chest, back, and under his nose to help reduce congestion.
